The Clarets chief was speaking after the pre-season 2-1 defeat at Bradford City.

Coyle told the club's official website: "I have said we are still looking to add a few into the mix but we have to make sure they are the right type to compliment what we already have here.

"There are always things happening (behind the scenes), but there is nothing concrete to add at this time.

"Whether anything happens before we go to the States then that remains to be seen, but we are trying."

got punished

More than 2,000 Clarets fans watched Bradford recover from Graham Alexander's stunning 13th minute strike to notch up a notable scalp in the first pre-season friendly of the season.

Coyle said: "I don't like losing, but it's the first game and if truth be told we could have had a few early goals.

"Ultimately we had possession twice and lost it and got punished and the higher the level you go the more that happens.

"We've only done five training sessions and Bradford are a week ahead of us in terms of fitness.

"But we move on now and get ready for Tuesday and all the lads who are fit and available will be involved.

"We wanted a couple of games before we go to America and fair play to Bradford; they worked ever so hard.

"We knew there would be lots of mistakes and there were, but that's what pre-season is for.

Chris Eagles and Chris McCann sat out the match after suffering minor training ground knocks.

And Steven Thompson lasted only 20 minutes before being withdrawn in the second half following a knock to the thigh.

tough opening

However Coyle said his players are looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Barclays Premier League.

The Clarets will open up their competitive campaign on 15th August at Stoke City and Coyle feels everyone at the club is relishing the upcoming challenge.

He added: "You look at Stoke and you know how difficult a game that will be. They had a tremendous home record last year and how well they acquitted themselves.

"It will be a tough opening, but it's one we're looking forward to.

"We all know we'll be playing against the best players, against the best teams and in the best league in the world.

"You can't ask for any more. What we have to do is make sure we are in games and do enough to try and win enough points to stay in it."

Coyle is also happy with how his new recruits have settled into life at Turf Moor, saying: "I think it's important that with the ability that brings players to the football club, you also bring the right sort of person to the group.

"The lads welcome anybody with open arms anyway and that helps them settle quickly. It will be very tight-knit again."
