The Brazilian striker spent the second half of last season at Goodison Park after struggling to live up to expectations after City had paid CSKA Moscow £18m in July 2008.

Everton were keen to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis after he netted five goals in 12 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Toffees.

But they were unable to meet the frontman's valuation, leading manager David Moyes to opt for a longer loan deal.

really happy

The three-time Brazil cap is now hoping that he can hit the ground running on Merseyside as he will not need time to adapt to new surroundings.

He told Everton's official website: "I'm really happy to be here. It's all happened quite quickly but I'm pleased.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season and I hope I can build on that.

"Obviously, I know everybody and how the club works so that helps.

"I've got the whole season to do that so I'm focused on having a good pre-season and preparing myself for the season ahead."
