The Clarets begin their Barclays Premier League preparations in earnest at Bradford next Saturday, with a two-match mini tour of America included in their warm-up programme.

Coyle said: "That's the way we like it. We love football and love working hard.

"We have that work ethic at the club, each and every one of us. That is important, and we hope it will be bear fruit.

"When we go and play in the Barclays Premier League we want to make sure we give performances that bring us points."

Burnley begin their first top-flight campaign at Stoke City on 15th August, quickly followed by a home fixture against Manchester United.

Coyle added: "We have sold 15,000 season tickets - our average game in the Championship was 13,000 - so that just shows you how much we have captured the imagination of the public."

New signing David Edgar will miss the opening match, because he is suspended after being sent off in the final match of last season when Newcastle United were defeated by Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old admitted it was a wrench to leave Tyneside and break his emotional ties with the relegated club.

He was brought up in Canada after his dad Eddie - a former Newcastle and Hartlepool goalkeeper - emigrated.

Edgar said: "My mum and dad are both Geordies, so it was a difficult decision to leave. But it came down to what was best for me.

"I knew it was time to move on and I like the way Burnley are going. I have a good feeling about this move.

"I do not think many teams will want to play at Turf Moor. It is such a compact stadium."
