The 22-year-old Canadian has agreed a four-year deal with the newly-promoted Barclays Premier League side.

Because of his age, Burnley are now in the process of trying to agree a fee with Newcastle, where his contract expired yesterday.

Edgar made his Newcastle bow at Bolton Wanderers on 26th December 2006 and scored his first goal for the club in the following match against Manchester United in a 2-2 draw.

He made seven starts for the Magpies last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

Edgar follows striker Steven Fletcher and right-back Tyrone Mears to Turf Moor as Burnley prepare for their first top flight campaign in 33 years.
