Fletcher has secured a four-year deal at Turf Moor following his £3m move from Hibernian.

The 22-year-old striker was looking for a new challenge after coming through the ranks at the Edinburgh club, where he scored 52 goals in 137 starts.

He had four years of his contract to run, and new Hibs manager John Hughes had hoped he would stay.

absolutely delighted

But Fletcher said: "I have wanted to come to England for a while now to show people what I can do - and I am so looking forward to it.

"I want to give 100 per cent and score goals - and I hope I can do that."

Fletcher, who will be introduced to the media on Thursday, believes he will grow as a player under manager Owen Coyle, the former St Johnstone manager.

"I am absolutely delighted to sign for the club," he said.

"It is a great feeling to be here, and I am just looking forward to getting the season started now.

"As soon as I heard that Burnley were after me, and knowing Owen Coyle as I do from my time in Scotland, I thought this was the right place to come and develop my career.

"The opportunity came along in January for me to join Celtic, but Hibs did not think it was the right time to move on.

"When the chance arrived to come to the Premier League and play for a club like Burnley, I was glad they accepted that."

freak season

Fletcher was Coyle's second signing of the day, defender Tyrone Mears having arrived from Derby County for a fee around £500,000.

Mears, who had a spell on loan at Marseille last season, is looking for a change of luck in the top flight after a disappointing experience in the 2007-08 season.

He was part of the Derby side that finished bottom of the table with an all-time low tally of 11 points.

"It was a freak season, something I do not think will happen again. I have blanked it out of my mind," Mears told the club's official website.

"I like to get forward. But it was difficult to do that, because we never had any of the ball. I hope it is going to be different this time with Burnley.

"I may have had experience in the top flight but I still need to prove I am a Premiership player."
