Manchester City have reportedly shown an interest in England international Lescott as the Citizens bid to challenge for major honours next season.

However, Jagielka believes his teammate belongs at Goodison Park where he can try to help the Toffees break into the Barclays Premier League top four.

fifth place

"Joleon has been fantastic and it was nice to see him play for England at the end of the season," Jagielka told the official Everton website.

"That tells you enough; he's a massive part of our team and we don't want him to go. I'm sure the club don't want him to go.

"Plus we have only got two centre halves, with me not being available at present."

Manager David Moyes led Everton to the the FA Cup Final and an excellent fifth place last term and Jagielka is concerned some of the bigger clubs may snap up some of his talented squad.

"The way football is at the moment, if someone is going to splash ridiculous money, then you have to see where it goes," he said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of our players were subject to bids, but hopefully we are financially stable enough to reject them and build on the squad we have got."
