The 29-year-old right-back completed a free transfer to the Lancashire club on Monday, signing a two-year deal.

He told the official club website: "I'm very happy to be here and I'm really looking forward to the next two years.

"It is going to be a good experience for me and hopefully for Blackburn Rovers as well, so I'm really looking forward to it."

After enjoying spells with Hamburg, Copenhagen and Nuremburg, the Danish international got a taste of the Barclays Premier League last season with Everton.

His progress was interrupted by a dislocated shoulder at the start of his spell at the Goodison Park club which meant he missed a large part of the campaign.

fought back

However he did battle back to feature in the FA Cup final, coming on as a half-time substitute for Tony Hibbert.

He added: "The Premier League is probably the biggest league in the world and everybody wants to play there, I am no different.

"I got off to a poor start with a shoulder injury and was out for half of the year so it wasn't the best start. But I fought back and played six matches including the second half of the cup final so that was a great experience for me.

"I've even been to Ewood before as I was just coming back from my shoulder injury at the time we drew 0-0 in March, I was on the bench for 90 minutes - freezing!"

Blackburn's players who have not been involved in summer internationals will return to pre-season training on Wednesday but Jacobsen has been given a few extra days off.

He explained: "I've got a couple of days more holiday as I had a national game against Sweden on 6th June which we won 1-0, so I will join up with the rest of the lads away in Austria.

"I'm really looking forward to getting to know everybody and to playing some football with the lads."
