Peter Storrie says Portsmouth face an anxious wait before discovering what the future holds for Sol Campbell.
The Pompey executive chairman has revealed that discussions have been held with the England international regarding a new contract, but as yet an agreement has not been reached.
Talks are set to resume when the centre-half gets back from holiday, with Portsmouth keen to fend off reported interest from a number of clubs across Europe.
Storrie said: "With Sol there is definitely no contract at the moment. We've held talks but Sol is currently on holiday and we are waiting for him to return so we can meet again."
Meanwhile, Storrie has also sought to clear up any uncertainty surrounding the future of those players who are also set to see their current contracts expire this summer.
players leaving
He added: "Hermann (Hreidarsson) has been offered a year's contract, while Sean Davis has turned his down and will be leaving. The rest of them have all gone. I don't think that will surprise too many people.
"We also will not be following up (Liverpool loanee) Jermaine Pennant, he will not be joining us permanently.
"A lot of these decisions were not hard to make. A lot of these players weren't featuring in the team so it was best they moved on. I don't think anyone will be shocked."
Storrie has also confirmed that Pompey are keen to tie Croatian playmaker Niko Kranjcar, whose current contract expires in 2010, down on a long-term deal.
He added: "Niko is happy to stay. He's a quality player. Maybe we can persuade him to stay here longer."
Meanwhile Storrie has confirmed Chelsea have matched Liverpool's £17.5m offer for England defender Glen Johnson.
Pompey accepted a bid from the Reds earlier this week and the 24-year-old looked set to seal a move to Anfield.
However, Storrie has confirmed the Fratton Park club have also now agreed terms with Chelsea - Johnson's former club.
almost identical
The in-demand full-back now has a decision to make, with both sides keen to tie up a deal this week.
"The matter will come to a conclusion at the beginning of next week. I do not have a preference over the move, it is up to Glen," Storrie said.
"The deals are almost identical so it really is down to him and what club he prefers, which one is going to pay him more money.
"Glen wants to play regularly in the Champions League, he has got himself back in the England side so I understand that. Sometimes you have to be fair to players."
Storrie knows that Johnson needs to be playing Champions League football next season in order to secure his place in Fabio Capello's starting XI - with the World Cup finals now less than 12 months away.
"It's a big year for him with the World Cup coming up," he added. "Playing Champions League football will make him an even better player than he is today."
