Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is delighted to be kicking-off the season on home soil.
Spurs face Liverpool at White Hart Lane in the opening day of the campaign. They will be looking to avenge a 3-1 defeat at Anfield in the final match of last season.
"I looked at all the fixtures on the internet and our game against Liverpool looks like the best of the opening weekend," Gomes told his club's official website.
"I think it's better to start at home than to start away."
Gomes went on to praise his club's fans, who grew fonder of the Brazilian as his performances improved last season.
our supporters
"I always say our supporters are our 12th man, they help us so much," he added. "There is nothing better than when they are singing your name and we are determined to start better than last season.
"I hope we can win the first game for confidence. If we played any team and won it would be great but if we do that against a team like Liverpool, it's even better for us.
"We have many quality players here, a great group, and I'm very excited about next season."
Gomes is currently away on Confederations Cup duty with Brazil.
