The 34-year-old former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur centre-back has been linked with Swiss side Basel in recent weeks as he considers his future.

Campbell has also admitted an interest in moving into coaching, but Pompey are hopeful he will continue his playing career at Fratton Park.

Club chairman Peter Storrie, though, admits that a contract offer would be based upon appearances and not a set fee per week.

"He is probably looking to change clubs, but we'll offer him a deal," Storrie said.

"However, it will not be on the terms he is on at the moment, but based more on appearances."

Pompey will travel to Fulham in their first match of the season on 15th August.
