While most players are recharging their batteries on holiday after a long Barclays Premier League season, Defoe is buzzing.

He showed no signs of fatigue to leap off the substitutes' bench and score twice in England's 6-0 win over Andorra in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley last week.

Defoe puts his freshness down to being sidelined between January and April with a foot injury and the former Portsmouth hotshot says he has never felt so good.

"Everyone is ready for their holidays but I feel great," he said. "No-one wants to be injured and miss games but I was out for 12 weeks and I still feel fresh.

"The way we finished the season at Spurs showed how strong the squad is and everyone is buzzing, especially when you look back at where we were at the start of last season.

"We will all come back positive in pre-season after finishing so strongly but as I said after the England game, I'm still ready to go!"
