On a quiet night of international action, four Barclays Premier League players amassed six goals between them as England romped to a 6-0 victory over Andorra at Wembley.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney opened the scoring after just three minutes as England moved another step closer to qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in European Qualifying Group Six.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard netted a second, with Rooney adding a third before half time.

Tottenham Hotspur's Jermain Defoe scored two in quick succession mid-way through the second half, before Portsmouth's Peter Crouch netted to put the seal on an emphatic England win - their biggest in a competitive match since a 6-0 success over Luxembourg in a Euro qualifier in 1999 at the old Wembley.

Brazil moved to the top of the South American Qualifying standings after coming from a goal down to beat Paraguay in Recife.

Salvador Cabanas put Paraguay ahead in the 26th minute with just the sixth goal against the Brazilians in 14 qualifying matches, but the hosts drew level before the break through Manchester City star Robinho before Nilmar struck the winner shortly after half-time.

Elsewhere, Carlos Tevez who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Manchester United, missed a penalty as Argentina went down 2-0 in Ecuador.

Fabregas injury

Cesc Fabregas was forced off with a head injury as Spain cruised to a 6-0 friendly win over Azerbaijan in Baku.

The Arsenal skipper was brought down in the penalty area shortly before half-time and appeared to hit his head on the ground.

Midfielder Fabregas looked in some pain as he was treated by Spain's medical staff, who had to work hard to stop the bleeding.

The Gunners favourite reportedly required stitches in the wound and was replaced at the interval by Sergio Busquets.

David Villa stepped up to fire home the resulting penalty to complete a first-half hat-trick and give Vicente del Bosque's men a 3-0 lead.

Liverpool duo Albert Riera and Fernando Torres found the net after the break, with substitute Daniel Guiza also finding the net to complete the rout.
