Cahill was called up to the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra as a replacement for the injured Rio Ferdinand.

Steinsson has played alongside Cahill for much of the season and believes the future is bright for the former Aston Villa youngster.

"He has done fantastically since he came here from Aston Villa," said Steinsson.

"Here, he plays first-team football every week and he gets confidence from that.

"He's a great player and without doubt I think he will be one of the future stars of English football.

"It has been a privilege to play with him this season."
