He said: "I'm going nowhere. They are always talking about me going, but why would I want to leave Portsmouth? We have a new owner.

"My ambitions are greater than just Premier League survival, but I have another year on my contract.

"I want to spend that year just enjoying life and playing without injuries before going off to the World Cup."

The 24-year-old had to watch from the sidelines as his team-mates nervously secured their top flight status following an ankle injury he picked up against Bolton Wanderers in April.

The Croatian international was immediately ruled out for the rest of the season but is eyeing his country's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on 6th June as a possible comeback.

"I started running again three days before the end of the English season," he added.

"I have now recovered from the injury. Of course, I am lacking in training and haven't played since April 18th."
