Manager Tony Pulis wants his January signing to focus on the job in hand and nothing else as his team aim to reach the magical 40-point mark.

Victory would almost certainly guarantee Stoke's survival in the top flight. Etherington has played his part since arriving from Upton Park.

Pulis said: "It is always a big game when you play against a side you have just left. Matty will have his reasons to do well but he also has to play for us and the structure we work on."

difficult decision

Midfielder Etherington says he is enjoying his new life in the Potteries.

He said: "It was a difficult decision to leave West Ham because I have family and friends down there.

"But my girlfriend has moved up with me and I am happy here. It has definitely been the right decision for me at this time in my career.

"I have loved every minute of it, especially playing at the Britannia. You have to see and hear it to believe it. It is great to play in front of those fans, who have been marvellous to me."
