Redknapp has lifted Spurs out of the bottom three since taking over at White Hart Lane, but the team's form has faltered in recent weeks.

The Spurs manager is eager to improve his squad when the transfer window reopens and Woodgate stressed the importance of bringing in new players.

"Of course it is," he said when asked if it is important the club sign fresh faces. "We are in a relegation battle and we have to keep improving. Every team has to buy players.

"If you look at this time last season, Spurs signed players and we must keep on buying.

"We need as many top-quality players as we can get."
