Mark Hughes wants to get Manchester City's transfer dealings completed quickly when the window opens.
Hughes will be have substantial funds to play with thanks to the financial muscle of owners the Abu Dhabi United Group.
However, he intends to spend wisely and not make quick-fix purchases, he said: "We want to get any business done as quickly as possible.
"That means those new players will be available for a number of games in January.
"Some deals cannot be done that way. They drag on and go right to the wire, up until the last day and the last hour.
"We want to improve the quality we already have at the club. January gives us that opportunity to go into the market and acquire good players who will help us.

"The ultimate aim is to have a squad that is flexible and balances and one which can meet any challenges thrown at it."
Even though new arrivals will only increase competition for places Benjani Mwaruwari will welcome that challenge.
He said: "We all know that there will be new players coming into the club in January and I am absolutely looking forward to it.
"If you play and train with good quality players then you end up improving as well. Bringing in new top-quality players will add to the challenge and give the manager options."
