Joleon Lescott has attended a workshop for seriously-ill children at Alder Hey hospital.
The Everton defender was more than happy to take the trip as part of the Premier League's Creating Chances initiative.
car accident
Having been involved in a serious car accident when he was younger, Lescott knows all about spending a lengthy time hospital - and that gave him a sense of what it is like for the children on the ward.
He said: "I was in (hospital) for a while so I have an idea.
"It has obviously put a smile on my face getting to do this visit, so if it can do the same for the kids then I'm happy. You hear people complaining about getting a cold - then you come to places like this and you realise there are a lot stronger people than you out there.
"People are struggling throughout their lives in different ways."
Having witnessed the joy brought to the children's faces by something as simple as a day visit to the ward, Lescott is proud of the impact he can make on their lives.
The England defender continued: "Things like this are not frequent enough. We tend to go around hospitals in the run-up to Christmas but for the children they're here throughout the year.
"Clubs can do more. There are a lot of players that are involved in charities. They're not interested in publicity stunts - they invest a lot of time and money into it. It's good but, as a whole, we could do more."
