Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton is on target to make his comeback in January.
Barton is currently sidelined with a knee-ligament injury he sustained in last month's draw with Wigan Athletic but is making good progress.
Magpies manager Joe Kinnear told the club's official website: "We have just had Joey's injury re-assessed and the doctor and physio team tell me we can expect to have him back in the middle of January.
Big lift
"And now he has a date to aim for, it will give Joey a big lift."
Barton has scored one goal so far this season, a penalty against West Bromwich Albion.
Newcastle host Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League this Saturday as the club look to move away from the relegation zone.
