Nick Barmby and Nathan Doyle had plenty of food for thought as they went back to school.
As part of the Premier League 'Creating Chances' scheme, the Hull City stars visited Highlands Primary School in Hull to serve food and offer their general assistance in the canteen.
Both players got themselves involved with serving food to the children and cleaning up dirty plates, much to the delight of the local youngsters.
Promoting the 'five a day' message was the main aim of the pair's lunchtime visit to the school and they even tried some of the healthy food on offer for themselves!
worthwhile visit
Former England international Barmby enjoyed the experience and said: "I think it's very important that we get out and about in the local community and this was a very worthwhile visit.
"Actually being on site with the kids allows you to get the message across in a good way and as professional footballers we're privileged to be able to do that.
"Myself and Doyley (Nathan Doyle) had a lot of fun serving food and getting our hands dirty by cleaning up a bit as well! You can tell by the smiles on the kids' faces what an impact Premier League football has had on the city in general and it's great to see."
Barmby concedes that a lot has changed since he went to school and added: "School dinners weren't over clever in my day because nobody really understood the importance of healthy eating, especially as far as children were concerned.
"But that's all changed now and it is very important that kids get their five a day. I just hope that this visit helped to get that message across to the youngsters at Highlands Primary."
