The 36-year-old won the club's man of the match award for his display in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday. And despite his advancing years, Yorke is certain he still has plenty to offer the club.

He said: "I knew the competition for places was going to be tougher this season, the manager said that to me before I signed.

"But I felt I could compete with these younger lads - if I didn't believe that then I would have walked away, lead a quiet life and enjoyed the sunshine.

"I have a lot of desire - the legs are perhaps not as fast as I would like but I've got the experience and hopefully I took my chance."
