Liverpool chalked up two major milestones as they beat PSV Eindhoven 3-1 but Chelsea were held 0-0 by CFR Cluj.
Robbie Keane scored his first Liverpool goal - and Steven Gerrard his 100th - in a comprehensive 3-1 win over the Dutch side at Anfield.
Dirk Kuyt fired Liverpool in front after just four minutes following up after Andreas Isaksson had saved a volley from Fernando Torres.
Keane made it 2-0 on 34 minutes when he deftly hooked home first time from an awkward cross by Torres.
The highlight of the night came after 74 minutes when Steven Gerrard hammered in a ferocious 30-yard free-kick to register his 100th goal for Liverpool. Danny Koevermans bundled home a consolation for PSV barely a minute later.
Chelsea held
Meanwhile a below-par Chelsea side were held to a goalless draw away to Romanian champions CFR Cluj.
Blues striker Didier Drogba had a frustrating evening and was stretchered off after 57 minutes with what looked a potentially serious injury.
Eugen Trica and Alvaro Pereira threatened in the first-half for Cluj, while Salomon Kalou missed a good chance for the visitors.
Trica clipped the post late on and Petr Cech denied Pereira with a smart save as the home side threatened to snatch victory, showing that their recent 2-1 win at Roma was no fluke.
