Holders Tottenham Hotspur face a tough task after being pitted against seven-time winners Liverpool.

Spurs, who defeated Chelsea to lift the trophy last season, took a break from their league troubles to dump Newcastle United out in the previous round and must beat top-flight opposition again if they are to progress.

Liverpool travel to White Hart Lane as the most successful side in league cup history, last winning the competition in 2005.

another chance

Arsenal's much-vaunted youngsters, who beat Sheffield United 6-0 last time out, will get another chance to impress, this time against Barclays Premier League opponents Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium.

Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers, managed by former Manchester United stars Roy Keane and Paul Ince respectively, will also face each other at the Stadium of Light.

United have been handed a home draw against a Queens Park Rangers side who accounted for Aston Villa with a 1-0 win in the third round, while Luiz Felipe Scolari's Chelsea are also paired with a side capable of giant-killing. They face Burnley who came out 1-0 winners over Fulham.

The other remaining Barclays Premier League side in the draw, Stoke City, are at home to Rotherham and Championship sides Swansea City and Watford will meet at the Liberty Stadium.
