A review of the news from around the grounds of each Barclays Premier League club.
Arsenal - Arsene Wenger says he accepts the criticism currently being levelled at his side. The Gunners were beaten 1-0 by Fulham on Saturday, and he said: "We live in a world now where you have to accept the critics and a definite conclusion from everybody. We had a bad game at Fulham and credit to them because they played very well."

- Martin O'Neill thinks Villa will be able to compete in the UEFA Cup proper, should they hold on to their 4-1 first leg lead against FH Hafnarfjordur. They face them in the second leg on Thursday and the manager said: "We are capable of contending, but whether we are good enough is another issue. The only way to be able to cope with that is to have the squad."
Blackburn Rovers - Academy product Keith Treacy has spoken of his pride at coming off the bench to make his debut in the opening day 3-2 win over Everton. "It was a great sign by the manager [Paul Ince] to put me on in those circumstances. We were drawing 2-2 away from home against a really good side in the Premier League and he decided to bring on an attacking midfielder, which is a great sign and a great incentive for me."
Bolton Wanderers - Kevin Nolan admits the players must look at themselves after the 2-1 Carling Cup second-round defeat to Northampton Town on Tuesday night. Nolan scored his 50th career goal but that could not prevent defeat to the Cobblers. "It was a disastrous result for us really," he said. "We've spoken after the game and we can't be happy with that performance."
Chelsea - Petr Cech, John Terry, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba will find out on Thursday if they have been honoured in the UEFA Club Football Awards. Cech is the current UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year and will he hoping to retain the award.
Everton - New right-back Lars Jacobsen is relishing the chance to impress at Goodison Park after joining on a free transfer. "It is a huge challenge for me and [I] will do my best to prove to the fans, the team and the coach that I am good enough to play here," he said. "I will do everything I can to play as many games as possible."
Fulham - Goalscorer Brede Hangeland has reflected on the 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday. "I think we did well and it was a great win for us and we needed it after our defeat to Hull," he said. "I think we deserve credit for keeping them from producing that many chances on goal, especially in the first half. In the second half we really had to work hard and it was good for us."
Hull City - Phil Brown has admitted that Swansea City deserved their 2-1 Carling Cup win over his side on Tuesday night. "Without a shadow of a doubt the better team won," he said. "Full credit to Swansea, they played some fabulous football and created a lot of good chances."
Liverpool - Rafael Benitez has heaped praise on Dirk Kuyt as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for the club against Standard Liege in the Champions League qualifier second-leg on Wednesday night. "He is a very, very good player for any team or squad," said the Spaniard. "He's a fantastic professional who can score goals, and his workrate is amazing. He's also a fantastic teammate, so he's a player any manager would want in his squad. He is always the same in every game and training session - a very good professional and a nice boy."
Manchester City - Mark Hughes is still on the look-out for new players after signing Vincent Kompany last Friday. "As long as they are of the right quality and will add to the quality that we already have then we'll see what's out there. There are opportunities and the means to bring new players in so we'll be investigating that."
Manchester United - Ryan Giggs feels Manchester United's UEFA Super Cup tie may have come at a good time. Friday's match against Zenit St Petersburg means that Fulham's Barclays Premier League visit to Old Trafford - originally pencilled in for this Saturday - needs to be rescheduled. But with the Carrington treatment room crowded, Giggs said: "In a way it's fallen nicely for us, having only two league games in the first four or five weeks of the season when we've got a few injuries. When we do have to play these games again, maybe we'll have everyone back fit."
Middlesbrough - Gareth Southgate says he is unlikely to make any more signings before the transfer window closes - even though he has money to spend. He said: "There is not tens of millions to spend but if as a club we think it's the right thing to do to strengthen then we are in a position to do that. There may be areas we feel we may need a bit more cover but we've got a very close-knit squad and everyone is involved."
Newcastle United - Michael Owen wants to continue his scoring streak after heading Newcastle United into the third round of the Carling Cup. The captain's match-winner in the 3-2 extra-time victory at Coventry City was his ninth goal in 11 matches and his second in successive outings from the bench. After shaking off a pre-season calf strain, he said: "I have been training now for a good six weeks and we all think it is about time I started stepping it up."
Portsmouth - Mark Chamberlain has returned to Fratton Park 14 years after his departure. The former Portsmouth winger will coach the club's Under 16's, replacing Paul Hardyman who becomes assistant to Academy coach Ian Woan. He said: "It is genuinely nice to come back. It is certainly a different club to the one I left."
Stoke City - Match-winner Jon Parkin is hoping to have provided manager Tony Pulis with a selection headache. Parkin grabbed the decisive goal in the Carling Cup win at Cheltenham Town and said: "I worked it out and that was my first full 90 minutes of competitive football under my belt in almost 16 months. I really enjoyed being out there and putting in a shift. To get a goal as well really capped the night off for me."
Sunderland - Roy Keane goes back to his old club Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night aiming to fire his side to their first cup victory in nearly three years. The Black Cats have lost their last five cup matches, including a 3-0 defeat at Luton Town at this stage of the competition a year ago. That still rankles and Keane said: "We might make one or two changes but we won't be messing around too much. It is all about learning. Last season we did not have a strong enough squad for me to rotate the team. It back-fired and, trust me, the Luton game is still very much in my mind."
Tottenham Hotspur - Tomas Pekhart has joined Championship side Southampton on loan until January. The 19-year-old striker was top scorer for the Reserves last season having joined from Slavia Prague during the summer of 2006. He is now a regular in the Czech Republic Under-21 squad.
West Bromwich Albion - Tony Mowbray refused to make excuses after his side's 3-1 Carling Cup defeat in extra-time at Hartlepool United. After making six changes, Albion trailed until Robert Koren's late equaliser earned an additional half hour which saw the Baggies hit the woodwork three times before going down to two breakaway goals. Mowbray said: "Ultimately we weren't bright enough to win it on the night. I am disappointed for the supporters who made the long trip. We have to give credit to Hartlepool who worked extremely hard for it."
West Ham United - Alan Curbishley is looking ahead to the Carling Cup visit of Macclesfield Town as an ideal opportunity to bounce back from their Barclays Premier League defeat at Manchester City. The Hammers manager has stressed his side will be treating the competition seriously saying: "It was a disappointing weekend for us so we are looking forward to this game. As we did last year, we'll attack the competition as I feel that a Premier League team will win the League Cup."
Wigan Athletic - Wigan Athletic have issued a reminder to fans that the club has a zero tolerance policy on any instances of racism at the JJB Stadium. Two arrests were made for racist chanting at the home match against Chelsea and chief executve Brenda Spencer said: "The majority of our fans display exemplary behaviour which is extremely pleasing and I think deserves a huge amount of praise. As a club we are fully behind the Kick Racism out of Football campaign and we remain fully committed to ridding the game of the blight of racism."
