The Honduras international joined in January on loan from Deportivo Olimpia, with the spell extended this summer with a view to a permanent deal next January.

Although left-back Figueroa only made his full debut in the final match of last season against Manchester United at the JJB Stadium, he has figured in the last three friendlies.

An impressed Bruce said: "We're delighted with Maynor. I think he is going to be a fine player for us in the long run.

"We had him here for five months last season. Basically it was a case of parking him and letting him settle in. That is the way to do things with some players, let them adapt to what it's all about and then get them more involved.

"We will be seeing more of him this term. He has shown he is not fazed by the Premier League and has the potential to do well in England."
