Gomes is expected to be Spurs' No.1 next season following his move from PSV Eindhoven and the departure of Paul Robinson to Blackburn Rovers.

Tottenham's long-term aim is to break into the Barclays Premier League's top four and manager Juande Ramos has had a busy summer as he attempts to build a squad capable of challenging for a place in the Champions League.

However, Gomes believes the club should set their sights higher and is eager for domestic glory.

"I am not thinking of just making it into the first four," Gomes said. "I am thinking of winning, being first or second, in that range."

"Some people might say I am aiming very high, but that has always been my thinking. I think as a champion and I want to win."
