The defender, who topped off an impressive season for Rovers with his first international appearance for England in June, believes the squad can achieve a higher finish than last term, after what he called a disappointing end to the campaign.

He told the club's official website that he is looking forward to the upcoming season under new manager Paul Ince.

"We are a club that is moving forward and we are all looking forward to the new era under the new manager," said Warnock.

"Last season, even though we finished seventh, it was still a bit of a disappointment to the lads as we feel that we can finish higher than that.

"So anything lower than seventh position again will be a disappointing season for us."
