The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the JJB Stadium following a medical on Tuesday. It means manager Steve Bruce has got his man for the second time after signing the player for former club Birmingham last summer.

Bruce said: "Yes, he's one I really wanted to get on board.

"Olivier's a real fighter, but he has a touch of quality about him. He can play in a number of positions and having worked with him in the past, I know what a good addition to our squad he will be.

"He has Premier League experience, which is important, and I'm confident he will do well here."

minor profit

The French midfielder scored five times in 26 Barclays Premier League appearances, but was unable to prevent Blues from relegation to the Championship.

He had been expected to leave the club and Bruce's successor Alex McLeish said he would not stand in Kapo's way, if the club received the right offer.

The deal gives Birmingham a minor profit on Kapo, who becomes Wigan's second signing of the summer after former Blues team-mate Daniel De Ridder joined on a free transfer.
