Creating Chances is the Premier League's flagship community programme and through the course of last season many Barclays Premier League players took part:

William Gallas became an artist painting with his feet in aid of autism; Robbie Savage turned poet for the day to encourage children to read; Didi Hamann worked in a soup kitchen for the homeless; Owen Hargreaves was a tea-boy in a hospital; Ashley Young helped keep the streets of Aston clean; and Obafemi Martins and Geremi packed customers' bags in a supermarket in Newcastle.

These were just a few of the highlights from Creating Chances, the Premier League's flagship community programme for communities and supporters across the UK.

Although the Premier League, its Clubs and players make genuine, responsible and committed contributions to their local and wide communities, this activity often goes unnoticed.

So, Creating Chances was developed to showcase the extensive community work that takes place at Premier League clubs each season, as well as donating over £1.3million to good causes and charities in its inaugural year.

Creating Chances kicked off at the beginning of the 2007/08 season at a national launch in London, with a player representing each of the 20 Barclays Premier League Clubs. Over the course of the season since then there have been three main Creating Chances initiatives: Places for Players, Premier League All Stars and Your Shot.

places for players

All of the 20 Premier League clubs committed their players to eight Creating Chances appearances during the season. In addition to highlighting Club community programmes and charities, three of these appearances were made available across the country via a national application process during May and June 2007.

Any charity or good cause could apply to win a player, as well as a £2,000 donation, and the successful applicants were those that nominated the most unique and relevant roles for the players.

There were thousands of applications from all across the UK and in addition to the 60 projects that received player visits there were a further 400 charities or good causes (20 per club) that received a £2,000 cash donation direct from the Premier League.

But the stories were provided by projects that the players visited. They ranged from the entertaining to the emotional and every appearance made a difference.

premier league all stars

Premier League All Stars was a charity made-for-television football programme that aired for a week on Sky One in September 2007. Premier League legends and celebrities, as well as 60 fans, came together to field teams representing all 20 Premier League Clubs.

The 7-a-side knock-out competition saw teams playing in official kits to win a share of the £300,000 prize funds. The competition was won by Middlesbrough, who beat West Ham United in the final, and they donated the £50,000 first prize to two local charities, Butterwick Children's Hospice and Teesside Hospice.

your shot

Your Shot was a national competition that gave 20 Premier League fans the chance to have a unique experience at their club.

The Premier League and Clubs are grateful for the loyalty they receive from supporters and their communities and this was an opportunity to repay that with 20 ultimate, behind the scenes match-day experiences at Premier League Clubs.
