The Wales captain has made two second-half substitute appearances in matches against Iceland and Holland in the past week, his first football since February as he recovered from an abdominal operation.

Bellamy looked sharp during those two cameo spells, and he is fully aware that Wales manager John Toshack - and club manager Alan Curbishley - desperately want him back firing on all cylinders next term.

Bellamy said: "We will need all our top players back when the World Cup qualifying campaign starts.

"From a personal point of view I am feeling great. I will be keeping up with my fitness and training regime during the summer and I am looking forward to a full pre-season.

"I have not got a holiday planned because I am itching to get back already.

"I will continue doing my fitness work. My wife wouldn't want me around the house all day anyway, I will need to get out. I need to keep going so that I can go back to West Ham next season in good shape."
