Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson is determined to avoid a repeat of last season's struggle.
Megson, who took over from Sammy Lee last October, steered the Trotters to safety - but only on the final day following a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.
Looking ahead to the new season, Megson said: "First and foremost, like every football club, your first target is to avoid relegation, to get to what you consider the safety margin as quickly as you possibly can.
poor season
"We didn't do that until we played Chelsea, which made for such a poor season. And we don't want that again."
Doncaster Rovers, who reached the second tier for the first time in 50 years with their 1-0 League One play-off final win over Leeds, have announced a pre-season friendly with Bolton.
Newly-promoted Rovers will take on Megson's side at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday, 1st August (7.30pm kick-off).
