Portsmouth have revealed plans to open contract negotiations with Linvoy Primus.
The 34-year-old has not played for Pompey this season due to a knee injury and with his current deal expiring in the summer he had questioned whether he would still be at the club next season.
But chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed discussions will begin with the defender, who moved to Fratton Park from Reading in 2000, in the near future.
"We will be looking at the players who are out of contract at some point over the next few weeks," Storrie said.
"We will certainly look after Linvoy - he has been a great servant to the club and we will be sitting down with him as and when the time is right.
pressing concerns
"Linvoy is certainly one who deserves to remain with the club.
"We haven't met with anybody regarding new contracts yet, but my personal opinion is he is one player we will definitely support as a club."
Storrie says there are more pressing concerns as Pompey continue to build up for the FA Cup Final and challenge for a place in the top six of the league.
He said: "We'll be looking at all of these issues when we get the time. It's been pretty busy with things like FA Cup finals to prepare for."
