Steve Bruce has told his Wigan Athletic players there won't be drastic changes this summer if they avoid the drop.
Victory at home to Reading on Saturday will confirm their top-flight status for another season. Bruce has been impressed with the existing Wigan squad for getting themselves into that position after being second-bottom when he took charge in November.
The Latics manager made three additions during the January transfer window, with Erik Edman, Marlon King and Wilson Palacios coming on board to boost their survival push. But rather than making sure he brings in more of his own men during the close season, Bruce will be trying to build on the foundations that are already in place at the JJB Stadium.
making strides
"The good thing is that if we can win on Saturday, I can go and speak to the chairman and say where we're looking to strengthen," he said. "We have one or two targets and the agents are already on the phone so there will be a few acquisitions, I'm absolutely convinced of that.
"But there won't be any major shake-up because I've been absolutely delighted with the standard of the squad I've got. We're in the top 10 in the Premier League in terms of form over the 20 games since I came here and I've seen very good things.
"There are some young players who are very, very talented and if we can add one or two then we can keep making strides."
