The Toffees host Alan Curbishley's side at Goodison Park on Saturday in the Barclays Premier League, but may face a striker shortage.

Johnson picked up a groin strain on Sunday in the defeat by Fulham.

Everton physio Mick Rathbone told the club's website: "AJ had a scan on Monday and it revealed what we thought it would.

The player has a groin strain and we'll do everything we can to get him fit before the weekend."

wait and see

Johnson's enforced substitution left David Moyes short of striking options after Victor Anichebe had earlier failed a fitness test.

Anichebe is also a doubt for Saturday's encounter, and will be closely monitored by the club's medical team.

"Victor jarred his hip in training on Friday and with him it's very much a case of wait and see," said Rathbone.
