Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins believes new manager Kevin Keegan is "the right man for the job".
Martins has watched the dramatic events in the North East from afar as he has spent the last week preparing for the African Cup of Nations with his Nigeria team-mates.
But the forward has given his endorsement to Keegan, saying: "Keegan knows the Premier League well so I think he is the right man for the job.
"I have heard about the option of Alan Shearer returning, but the players do not have a say on this. It is up to the board. I just want what is best for the club.

"I believe Newcastle have the players to fight for a place in the UEFA Cup and not worry about relegation."
Keegan replaced the departed Sam Allardyce last Wednesday.
Martins was involved as his Nigeria side went down to a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their first match at the African Cup of Nations. Chelsea's Salomon Kalou scored the only goal in the second-half.
