The American international joined the Rams in the summer and has featured in three Barclays Premier League matches. Davies believes the 22-year-old former Hamburg player can't be expected to make a big impact in such a short space of time.

"We know he is good with the ball, we know what he is all about but he is a young lad," said Davies.

"We identified him as a project, if you like. A young player who is emerging on the international scene, a young player full of attributes, and a player we can improve.

"Now we have to be patient, work with him on the training ground and give him time to settle in."
