Fiorentina hitman Valeri Bojinov is set to complete his move to Manchester City subject to a medical.
Manchester City continue on their spending spree as Sven-Goran Eriksson looks set to add another Bulgarian to his squad.
Fiorentina stiker Valeri Bojinov flew to Manchester today for a medical after a fee of £5.7million was agreed between the two clubs. The 21-year-old has reportedly agreed terms on a four-year deal and is looking forward to teaming up with international teammate Martin Petrov who moved to City from Atletico Madrid last week.
"I would like to thank manager (Sven-Goran) Eriksson for making this move possible," said Bojinov. "I'm very pleased that I'll have the chance to play alongside Martin (Petrov), as we did it in the national team. I've already talked to him several times."
the right time
Bojinov became the youngest non-Italian to play in Serie A when he made his debut for Lecce aged just 15 years and 11 months. He quickly established himself as a regular for both club and country. The Bulgarian international has won 11 senior caps - scoring twice.
At the age of just 18, Bojinov moved to Fiorentina from Lecce in January 2005 in a £9million deal and quickly formed an explosive partnership with fellow striker Luca Toni. But he was farmed out to Juventus on loan last season and when they turned down an option to buy him, Bojinov found himself frozen out back in Florence.
"I want to also thank the fans at Lecce, Fiorentina and Juventus," added Bojinov. "I spent eight years in Italy and I think it's the right time to change country."
