1996 - Moves to hometown club Newcastle United in then world record £15m deal
Injury sees Shearer miss large parts of 1996-97 season, but he still scores 28 goals in all competitions as Newcastle finish second in the Premiership and qualify for the Champions League
June 2000 - Scores a penalty but his international career ends as England fail to make Euro 2000 after a 3-2 defeat to Romania in qualifying
December 2002 - Having already scored his 100th Premiership goal for Newcastle the month before and becoming the first man to accomplish the feat with two clubs, Shearer scores the 350th goal of his career against Middlesbrough
February 2005 - Nets his 250th Premiership goal in Newcastle's 1-1 draw at Manchester City
February 2006 - Shearer scores his 201st goal for Newcastle at home to Portsmouth to become top scorer in the club's history
April 2006 - Admits his career has been ended by a medial ligament injury sustained against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light
May 2006 - Barclays present Alan Shearer with a Platinum Boot as he bids farewell to his playing career
