Liverpool is a very active club in its local community and they put a great deal of thought into their Creating Chances appearances, choosing players who could help deliver the message that the chosen project wanted to support:
Ryan Babel was part of a racism seminar delivered by Dominique Walker, the sister of Anthony Walker who was murdered in a racially motivated attack. Babel, himself a victim of racism as a youth, took part in break out groups on discussions on racism and a Q&A at the end.
Steven Gerrard went to visit KIND, a charity that tries to come up with imaginative ways to help struggling children to cope with many forms of disadvantage. The money from Creating Chances helped KIND build a new kitchen while Steven and Liverpool's club chef met with local families to discuss healthy foods and the importance of a healthy diet.
John Arne Riise helped promote an anti-smoking campaign aimed at teenagers and developed by the Roy Castle Lung Foundation. John's face was aged to show what he would look like if he smoked. John lost his own father to lung cancer.
Momo Sissoko was part of a school assembly designed at combating racism. The assembly was delivered by Liverpool club chaplain Bill Bygroves, who along with his team of community coaches, use the profile of the club to convey and reinforce some very important social messages to thousands of children throughout Merseyside at weekly school visits.
