2008: Aston Villa 4-2 Manchester City

Gabriel Agbonlahor struck an seven-minute hat-trick as Aston Villa overcame Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.

John Carew’s header at the start of the second half was cancelled out by Elano's penalty, but Agbonlahor then struck three times between the 69th and 76th minutes. Vedran Corluka notched a late consolation goal for the visitors.

The result left Villa in second place on goal difference, while Man City were 18th.

2012: Robin van Persie signs for Manchester United

Robin van Persie moved from Arsenal to Manchester United.

The Dutch striker arrived at Old Trafford having scored 96 Premier League goals for the Gunners, 30 of them coming in the 2011/12 season, when he was the leading scorer in the top flight.

Van Persie struck 26 PL goals in his first season at Man United, winning the Golden Boot for the second time in a row and helping Sir Alex Ferguson's side to win the title.

He spent two more seasons at Old Trafford and left the club with a tally of 48 strikes in 86 PL matches, joining Turkish team Fenerbahce in July 2015.
