Stoke City have made their second signing of the transfer window after completing a deal for Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen for a fee that could rise to £13m.

Allen, who joined a matter of hours after Ramadan Sobhi, the Egyptian winger, arrived from Al Ahly, has signed a five-year deal at the bet365 Stadium.

The 26-year-old's move comes just two weeks after he was named in the team of the tournament at UEFA Euro 2016.

The Wales international was one of three Premier League players to make the all-star XI – alongside Dimitri Payet and Aaron Ramsey - after helping his country to the semi-finals of a major tournament for the first time in its history.

Allen had been at Anfield since Brendan Rodgers signed him from Swansea City in 2012, going on to make 91 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

In total he has featured 127 times in the top flight, scoring eight goals.

"It's been a whirlwind 48 hours for me but I am delighted to have finally been able to put pen to paper," Allen told stokecityfc.com. "I was really excited as soon as I heard of the club's interest and it wasn't a difficult decision for me to make."

Allen added that Stoke manager Mark Hughes, was instrumental in his decision to join the Potters.

Stoke drew 1-1 with Preston North End on Saturday after being defeated in their opening pre-season fixture against Burton Albion last week.

The Potters are next in action on Wednesday versus Orlando City at the Titan Soccer Complex in Florida.

Six Under-21 squad members have been named in Hughes' 28-man squad along with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic after being given extra time off due to international commitments.

Their first match of the 2016/17 Premier League season will be a trip to newly-promoted Middlesbrough on Saturday 13 August.
