Emery named Barclays Manager of the Month

Unai Emery has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for April, winning the award for the first time.

Emery has continued his transformation of Aston Villa, helping them into the top six in April, winning five of seven matches.

He oversaw a 2-0 victory at Chelsea to begin the month before masterminding a 3-0 home win over Newcastle United as Villa continue to dream of European qualification for next season. 

The 51-year-old beat fellow nominees Pep Guardiola, Roy Hodgson, Eddie Howe and Gary O'Neil after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

The Spaniard is the first Aston Villa head coach to win the award since Dean Smith in December 2020, while it is Villa's first Premier League monthly award of any kind since Danny Ings won August 2021's Budweiser Goal of the Month.
