Walter Mazzarri's only Premier League job to date came during the 2016/17 season with Watford.

A midfielder in his playing days, Mazzarri enjoyed a 15-year professional career with a whole host of Italian teams including Pescara, Cagliari and Empoli. He retired in 1995 and looked to use his football knowledge off the pitch.

Starting off as a scout and goalkeeping coach at Napoli, Mazzarri’s first job in full charge came at Acireale Calcio in 2001 before moving on to brief spells with Pistoiese and Livorno.

It was in his fourth position, at Reggina, where he started to impress. Mazzarri saved the club from Serie A relegation for three consecutive seasons, with the latter of those survivals coming despite Reggina being deducted 11 points.

His work did not go unnoticed and after Sampdoria came calling, he led the Genoa-based side into Europe and to the final of the Coppa Italia in 2009. 

Mazzarri's next role came with Napoli, where he spent four successful years, which included reaching the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and winning the Coppa Italia in 2011/12.

After finishing as Serie A runners-up to Juventus in 2012/13 he departed for Inter Milan but parted company with the Nerazzurri in November 2014.

The Italian spent 18 months without a managerial job, but Mazzarri was chosen by Watford to replace Enrique Sanchez Flores at Vicarage Road ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Leading up to the final match of the season, Watford announced the Italian would be leaving the club once the 2016/17 campaign ended - with the Hornets eventually finishing in 17th position.
