A selection of photos from friendly between Newcastle and AC Milan legends

More than 50,000 people came to St James' Park yesterday to honour Steve Harper's 20 years of service for Newcastle United in a charity match.

The match was between a team of former Newcastle players and AC Milan Glorie, or legends to have played for the Serie A side.

Proceeds from the one-off fixture will go to the Newcastle United Foundation, Great North Children's Hospital and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The Newcastle United Foundation, which is the official registered charity of the Barclays Premier League club and which has just celebrated its fifth anniversary, relies on independent funding to continue working with 47,000 young people and families in the North East each year and will channel its share of the proceeds into community projects across North and South Tyneside, County Durham and Northumberland.

Among the former Newcastle players involved on Wednesday were Alan Shearer, the leading goalscorer in the history of the Barclays Premier League, as well as Les Ferdinand, Andrew Cole, Faustino Asprilla, David Ginola and Joey Barton.

For Milan, the former Italy captain Franco Baresi was accompanied by Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta and Zvonimir Boban, Mark van Bommel, Christian Vieri and Daniele Massaro.
