Van der Vaart's long-range effort deceived Scott Loach in the Watford goal
Rafael van der Vaart's first-half goal was enough to secure Tottenham's place in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the expense of battling Championship side Watford.
The Dutchman's long-range effort bounced awkwardly to beat Scott Loach in the Hornets goal.
Watford showed plenty of endeavour and were particularly unfortunate when Carlo Cudicini tipped Sean Murray's effort on to the post, although Van der Vaart also struck the bar with a powerful drive.
Everton came from behind to sink Barclays Premier League rivals Fulham and reach the last 16 of the competition.
Danny Murphy put Fulham ahead with a penalty after Chris Baird's shot was handled by Johnny Heitinga in the area.
But Argentine Denis Stracqualursi headed in Landon Donovan's cross to equalise with his first goal for the club, and Donovan was the provider again as Marouane Fellaini nodded in the winner with 17 minutes to go.
