Newcastle United have announced the signing of Siem de Jong from Ajax.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder joins Newcastle for an undisclosed fee, signing a six-year deal. De Jong was captain at Ajax, where he made his debut in 2007 and had gone on to make 244 matches for the Amsterdam club, scoring 78 goals. His brother, Luuk, a striker, was on loan at Newcastle for the second half of the 2013/14 season and played a part in his joining.
"He will give us intelligence in the final third and create goalscoring situations, which we lacked towards the end of last season"
"It is great to have signed for Newcastle," De Jong, who has six caps for the Netherlands, said. "It is a big club which my brother told me all about, so I already feel good here.
"I had been at Ajax a long time and wanted a new challenge in a new environment and a new country. Coming to Newcastle is a great opportunity and the chance to play for a club like this in the Premier League was one I could not turn down.
"I am looking forward to starting training and meeting my new teammates and hopefully we can have a successful season."
A delighted Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes De Jong will add a dimension to the club's attack for the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

De Jong is Newcastle's third signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Ayoze Perez from Tenerife and Jack Colback from Sunderland.
