Sunderland complete transfer of Manchester City midfielder Rodwell

23-year-old midfielder signs five-year deal after joining for an undisclosed fee

Jack Rodwell was limited to 16 BPL appearances for Man City over two seasons

Sunderland have completed the signing of Jack Rodwell from Manchester City.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been acquired for an undisclosed fee and has signed a five-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

After coming up through the ranks at Everton, Rodwell made his Barclays Premier League debut for the Toffees at the Stadium of Light, in March 2011. In total he made 84 appearances for Everton in the Barclays Premier League, scoring four times, before moving to Manchester City in August 2012.

Injuries restricted his first-team action over two seasons at the Etihad Stadium, making seven starts and nine substitute appearances in the Barclays Premier League and scoring twice.

Rodwell, who has three England caps, is Sunderland's fifth signing of the summer after following the arrivals of Billy Jones, Costel Pantilimon, Jordi Gomez and Patrick van Aanholt.

Gus Poyet's side begin their BPL campaign at West Bromwich Albion on 16 August.
