Matchweek 4 stats: Lloris keeping sheets clean at White Hart Lane

Refelecting on Matchweek 4 in the Barclays Premier League, the statistics reveal the first-half tendencies of Liverpool, the extent of Arsenal's free-scoring form,  Wayne Rooney's assist record, Chelsea's aversion to Merseyside, Hugo Lloris's White Hart Lane force-field and why 2013 is a good year for Christian Benteke.

  • Robin van Persie's penalty ended a run of 225 minutes without a goal in the top-flight for Manchester United.
  • Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie have now started 23 Barclays Premier League matches together. In those matches, the pair have scored 28 goals between them (RVP 15 and Rooney 13).
  • Rooney has now either scored or assisted 40 goals in his last 44 Premier League fixtures.
  • Manchester United have won 56 of the 57 Premier League encounters at Old Trafford in which Wayne Rooney has scored, the exception being a 4-4 draw with David Moyes' Everton in April 2012.
  • Since his Premier League debut in August 2006, Ashley Young has won a joint-league-high 12 penalties (level with former team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor).

  • Aston Villa have gone 26 Barclays Premier League matches without a clean sheet; a longer run than any other side currently in the division.
  • Christian Benteke has now scored 18 Premier League goals this calendar year, more than any other player.
  • All four of Yoan Goufrann's Premier League goals have come away from home.
  • The Magpies are unbeaten in the last five league meetings with Aston Villa (W3 D2). That said, Villa have scored in each of those encounters.
  • The Villains have won one and lost four of their last six home Barclays Premier League matches.

  • Gareth McAuley's goal was West Bromwich Albion's first goal of the season after 360 minutes of play. They were the final team to net their opening goal this term.
  • This was Wrst Brom's 40th Premier League away match in London – they have only won four of them (W4 D10 L26).
  • Albion have avoided defeat just twice in seven Premier League visits to Craven Cottage and have never won there (D2 L5).
  • Against no side has Steve Sidwell scored more Premier League goals than he has against West Brom (two).
  • Having got off to their best-ever start to a Premier League season last term (seven points from first four matches), West Brom registered their worst ever top-flight start this time around (two points from four matches).

  • Peter Whittingham scored his first Barclays Premier League goal since November 6, 2004. That goal was 3234 days ago.

  • The Tigers' last five Premier League fixtures have produced just seven goals.
  • Hull have now won only one of their last 11 Premier League fixtures, drawing four and losing six.
  • The Welsh side are now without a win in six away league meetings (going back to last season), drawing four and losing two.

  • Stoke had more attempts than Manchester City in this match (11-10, including blocked).

  • Arsenal have conceded the most penalties this campaign (three).
  • Arsenal have scored in nine successive matches in the competition; the longest-such current run in the Barclays Premier League.
  • The Black Cats have now conceded four goals in the final 15 minutes of matches, no other side has conceded more than two.

  • Gylffi Sigurdsson scored his third Barclays Premier League brace, but his first on home soil.
  • Tottenham Hotspur have won 11 of their last 15 home matches in the Barclays Premier League, losing just one (D3).
  • Norwich City have won only one of their last 12 away encounters in the Premier League (D2 L9).
  • Only against Manchester United (9) and Liverpool (8) have Norwich lost more matches in Premier League history than against Tottenham Hotspur (7).
  • Spurs have kept four consecutive clean sheets at home in the Premier League. They last kept more in Dec 2009-Feb 2010 when they managed a run of five shut-outs.

  • Steven Naismith has now scored two Barclays Premier League goals against Chelsea, more than any other side in the top-flight.
  • Ashley Cole was subbed off in the Premier League for the first time since February 2012, when he was also replaced at Goodison Park. Indeed, three of his last four substitutions have come at the home of the Toffees.
  • Chelsea have won just two of their last 11 Premier League trips to Merseyside (W2 D2 L7).
  • Jose Mourinho suffered his first Premier League defeat since September 2007 (0-2 at Aston Villa).
  • The Portuguese tactician only suffered one defeat in his first Premier League season.
  • Rafa Benitez led the Blues to two victories over Everton last term.

  • Southampton have scored just four goals in their last nine Barclays Premier League matches.
  • The Hammers have won only one of their last 16 Barclays Premier League away games (D5 L10).
  • West Ham have registered back-to-back goalless draws in away games for the first time since December 1999.
  • West Ham have managed just six shots on target so far this season, fewer than any other side in the league.
  • The Hammers also have the worst shooting accuracy in the league so far, finding the target with just 20% of their shots.
  • Southampton have now failed to win in five home games (D4, L1), scoring just three goals in the process.

  • Jonjo Shelvey's goal was the first Liverpool had conceded in the Barclays Premier League in 419 minutes of play.
  • Daniel Sturridge became the first Liverpool player and the ninth Barclays Premier League player to score in the opening four games of the season. Olivier Giroud has also done this this season and all eight of Giroud and Sturridge’s goals have come before half-time. Sturridge has scored 12 times in his last 10 games for Liverpool (all comps).
  • This was the first Premier League game this season with more than two goals before half-time.
  • This game had the fourth highest combined pass completion rate of any match in the Premier League this season (86%).
  • Liverpool have yet to score a second-half goal in the Barclays Premier League this season.
  • Leon Britton made 94 passes and completed 96% of them..
