Kagawa and Yoshida named in Japan World Cup squad

Two BPL players named in Alberto Zaccheroni's 23-man squad for FIFA World Cup

Shinji Kagawa and Maya Yoshida will represent Japan in Brazil

Two players from the Barclays Premier League feature in the Japan 23-man squad for the FIFA 2014 World Cup named by coach Alberto Zaccheroni on Monday.

Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa and Southampton defender Maya Yoshida will go to Brazil after featuring in the successful campaign that meant they became the first nation to qualify for the tournament.

Japan are in Group C and open up against Ivory Coast on 14 June, before facing Greece then Colombia.

The Russia squad that was also announced today, by Fabio Capello, has no present players from the Barclays Premier League, although Reading’s Pavel Pogrebnyak, who scored five goals for the Royals in the top flight during the 2012/13 season, and former Chelsea player Yuri Zhirkov are named.
