Moyes impressed by Man United's rising stars

U21 starlets Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard among United players singled out by Scot on tour

  • Man Utd forward Januzaj capped a fine pre-season tour with a goal against Kitchee FC

  • Lingard's four goals on tour made an impression on United manager David Moyes

  • Figueroa lit up London Road with a spectacular winner for Hull against Peterborough

  • George Boyd led the line for Hull City against his former side

Manager David Moyes singled out three homegrown academy graduates for praise after Manchester United signed off from their tour of Asia with a 5-2 win against Kitchee FC.

"I think the young players – Adnan, Lingard and Zaha – who I didn't know so much will go away thinking they've contributed"
David Moyes

Goals by Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Fabio, Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard sealed victory for United at Hong Kong Stadium on Monday, with Under-21 starlets Januzaj and Lingard among the players to have impressed Moyes during his first tour with his new club.

"I've known these players because I've watched them over the last few years," Moyes told the club's website. "But to see the young players - Adnan, Lingard and Zaha - who I didn't know so much about, I think they'll go away thinking they've come here and contributed to it."

Eighteen-year-old Belgian Januzaj and Warrington-born Lingard, 20, both starred in United's Barclays Under-21 Premier League triumph last season, and while the latter has proven his worth with four goals for the senior team during pre-season, the former has also shone with his pace and skill.

"I have done some good stuff [during the tour] and I hope to keep going," said Januzaj. "That is what I am going to do. I am going to work hard and try to keep doing what I am doing."

Indeed Smalling is confident all three fledgling forwards can make the grade at Old Trafford. "They have taken their chance," said the England international. "It's good that the manager has given these young players a chance and they have really taken their chances. I think all of them have made a claim for the start of the season and they are all in with a good shout."

Elsewhere on Monday, Hull City continued their preparations for the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Peterborough United at London Road.

Steve Buce's charges ran out winners thanks to a spectacular goal by Maynor Figueroa, who rifled the ball into the top corner of the net with an unstoppable left-footed strike on 33 minutes.
